Ideas To Publication Overnight

|

The New York Times today had a neat article by Kim Stevenson entitled "The Little Coffee Shop Around The Corner."

The gist of the article is that some friends wanted to find a conventional coffee shop instead of a Starbucks. The idea prompted the creation of a Web site called Delocator.net. The site is thriving.

Think back a few years when such a whim could never become anything more than a dream. The beauty of the Internet is that ideas can become blogs or Web sites overnight. Not everyone of these ideas gets a following, but at least democracy surrounds the Net --- everyone can be heard or be a publisher. The trick, as always, is a good idea works and a bad idea flounders.

That's certainly an inspiring idea. Now, the question is whether I can do something with it.

Here's my problem: Me and quite anumber of others are 50-ish formerly successful software professionals, but with the shriveling of the technology sector (but I won't blame "offshoring"), we find it very difficult -- no, make that EXTREMELY difficult -- to find steady work. Yeah, we've all tried going the entrepreneurial route, but without much success. So, the question becomes, how can we turn our "plight" into an exploitable opportunity?

I'm not soliciting any advise, but simply, as we used to say, "thinking out loud."

Hmmm...

You hit the nail on the head. The web is the ultimate equalizer.

Delocator.net is proxy for wether or not your town "has jumped the shark." The arrival of Starbucks means your town is on its way down not up.
